Testing 1

I always seem to open talking about the weather, I guess I do this because it really affects our cruise’s and Cruise-Ins. Today would be no different, the weather report all week long was that is was going to rain over 70% of Central Florida today. I think it probably did but not very much while we were at Old Town.

Anyway we would arrive at our regular time. Emil, KJ4GNH would have made his way to Block 4 and was set up. Steve Mc, K4SKM was early and took a place by Dave D’s spot, Warren W would join later and park his Caddy convertible under the carport next to the “Mint Julep”. Bill would have his ‘53 Ford “Show Time” pickup at the top of Block 3 and 2 of the 3 amigos were in place early as well.

You may notice that this issue is sans it’s “This day in History” and about 3 more pages. This weeks coffers were very light. Advertising revenue is down a bit. If I had a few more subscriptions we could live with a few less advertisers.

O.K. back to the days events. Charlie was in town as he is most every week, we need to get him into a car soon so he can join in on the real fun, the Cruise itself. T Rod, KT4ROD would check in over the repeater as would Graham, G4HFG from Oldham, England.

Linda and I would make our first trip up Trophy Row and their wouldn’t be many cars out yet, however, Bob our “Head loon” was in the bin with his GMC pickup. He was actually setting under the overhang because of the rain. Bill L was out in his ‘55 Chevy nearby. John & Sandy's ‘55 Chevy was next to him and Dick’s ‘36 Ford finished out the parking area. Juan had the Falcon out, I just never know what he is going to be driving next. Darrell was next to the stairs, just where he likes to be and Bob was next to him in his ‘36 Buick. Karen & the Kids were on the corner behind the stairs. Block 1 was pretty bare at this time. John & Rich would arrive in the ‘57 Chevy and “Mothers” was on sale next to Mark’s Chevy II Nova. Nick & Fran were Cruising the Old Town ‘57 Chevy today. His coupe should be back on the road in a few weeks.

Tom & Bunny would arrive in her ‘68 Fairlane just after we got back from our walk. Bill & Doris would stop by for a visit and the rain started. It wasn’t a heavy rain more of a “Manchester Rain” as our English friends would call it. Several Canadian spectators would stop by and check out our Old Dodge, seems as though they have a rather large Mopar Club where they came in from. Mike, N4HHA would arrive in his ‘63 Corvair Convertible. We’re very happy that he made his escape from work and could take the time to kick back with us. It wouldn’t be long before it was time to head out to eat so we all started our way up to “Flippers” , it would take a while for all of us to make it to the table but we did dine alfresco and Ron and John took great care of us as usual. The rain stopped and the breeze picked up a bit. The rest of the night would stay pretty much dry except for a few drizzles just before Cruise time.. On our way back to Block 4 we would visit with Bill A who was in his ‘63 Pontiac and the returning Larry and Karen in “ITZA40” a few more of our perennials from Canada. I would stop up to see Mike Singer, KJ4GNI in the Blue Room, Lorie, the “Queen of Doo Wop” was visiting him. Shout, the nights band was setting up on stage. From about 6:30 to 8:00 the flow of cars into Old Town was continuous, Tony & Donna parked by Steve Mc, Tom & Lori would park their ‘68 Mustang next to Mike's Corvair and Block 4 would start to get a few more occupants that would include Steve & Amanda in their ’56 Chevy but it wouldn’t fill up as usual however there were not many open spots North of Florida Plaza. Our now large crowd of spectators would not be disappointed with the parade tonight, Of course any day out here in our Home Town is better than anywhere else. If you have never made it to the streets of Old Town it is about time you came. The Cars The People, the friendly merchants and Restaurateurs and the great staff at Kid’s town and the Cruise. Come on out and help us spin that yarn that becomes the fabric of nostalgia and become part of the rich History that is the Saturday Nite Cruise.

Esther would stop by with the flag winners just after 8:20, the Cruise Staff would direct Derrick Wood in his '64 Corvette, January 2010 Cruiser of the Month, who was then followed by the rest of the Cruisers out of their parking spots into the line up, Mesha & Chris would bring them to Block 4 that becomes the staging area for Old Town's signature event. The rest of the cars from the top 3 Blocks would join in behind them. Mike Singer, KJ4GNI, who had been at the controls of the "Blue Room" all day, playing a mix of nostalgic music, radio "Jingles"  gave the safety announcements, played the National Anthem, Wolfman Jack then proclaimed "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise" for tonight's running of this tradition. The Cruisers made their way to the "Bricks" of "Deac Hundley Avenue", Mike announced the Flag Winners as the rest of the 109 cars in cruise formation cruised past, delighting a large crowd of cheering spectators along both sides of the Avenue. "Rain or Shine" or even Snow, every Saturday night of the year, there is nothing quite like it for the "Cruisers" and it is always a treat for those watching it from the sidewalks and boulevards.

Thank you Old Town for letting us, the curators of this "Rolling Display of Automotive History", the cars that are the "Stars", to be their guests this evening. Thank you to the Old Town Merchants Association and the Sponsors of this event, "Valvoline", the "General Store", the "A&W",  "Out of this World Embroidery", "Wound 'N Around", Pepsi, Roberts Brothers, the Pearl Factory, the Gold Hut, the "Tropical Breeze", Kool Kats, Tex Mex Express & "Flippers" just to name a few. Thank you to Allan, Ron, Gary Lee, Dave, Esther, Vic, Nikki, CJ, Mesha, Chrisanne, Deputy Asa and the entire Cruise Staff and fellow Cruisers for making our Saturday in "Town" a fun and safe one..
