story

We arrived early today to get our office visit in and get parked and set up in time to meet Brian from Celebration Suites, our '67 Dodge Dart 270 was parked on Trophy Row by 2:15. Gary moved his '07 HHR Sherrod into place by the stage, Bill & Doris arrived in their '79 T-Bird and parked next to him. Lynn arrived in her '08 Avalanche followed by Stan & Maryann in their '05 Escape.

We headed for Flippers to get our food ordered before our meeting Mike & Carol parked their '74 Dodge Dart then walked up to join us, Lori arrived in her daily driver, Bill arrived in his '63 Parisienne and came to join in at Flippers. We were not expecting Emil to drive by in his '48 Ford "High School Flame" but he did and met up with Charlie in his '02 BMW Mini the two of them headed to Kool Kats for their meal. Brian arrived with Callie they were followed by Tom, Bunny, Jim & Joy who arrived in the '66 Malibu. Dave drove by in his '83 Grand Marquis before we left to return to Trophy Row.

Bill brought out his '51 Crosley and Joe was in his ‘49 Crosley like most of the Cruisers they parked their cars and went in search of food. Dale arrived in his '27 Ford, Rosemary & Dan were in her 2000 Mustang Convertible, Larry was in his "ITZA40", Steve & Carolyn brought out their '67 Barracuda, Monchito & Yolanda joined us in their '06 Chrysler 300 and Rafael in his '48 Ford bringing the total number of Cruiser Cars to 19.

The Dukes had arrived and set up, if the wind would lessen it would be quite pleasant the sun was shining but the wind was diluting any warmth it tried to emit. On a positive note it was not raining and for that we were very grateful, cold and rain do not go well together in Florida we are used to heat and rain. The spectators arrived and sheltered from the wind as best they could however this did not stop the dancers. We had Liz and Alan Robinson visiting from Leicester, England, her brother had been out a couple of years ago and shared dance steps with Lori and the other dancers, Liz and Alan had contacted Lori to do the same, they all seemed to enjoy themselves.

A new tradition was started tonight at 7:30 Tracy and Craig led a group in front of the stage in the first “Stroll on Trophy Row in the shadow of Little Darlin's”. This was apparently a very popular line dance in the ‘50’s once people get comfortable with it I’m sure it will be a successful tradition. The Dukes sang a couple more songs then handed the microphone to Steve who awarded Cruiser of the week to Cruiser #69 Dale Crowe with his '27 Ford. Rosemary stood in for Bunny and sold 50/50 tickets Cruiser #114 Carol Bauer had the winning ticket for the $20 jackpot. Cruiser #78 Trish Cain was not out so the Cruise-A-Matic goes up to $200 next week. The case of oil donated by Valvoline went home with Cruiser #70 Stan Mull.

Thank You to Old Town for inviting us out every week, to the Old Town Merchants Association for sponsoring “The Dukes”, to Out of This World Embroidery/Custom Tags, The Old Town General Store, Knives & Things, Toy Time, Electronic Town, The Gold Hut, Kandlestiks, Wound ‘N Around and Old Town Leather, Valvoline, to Tracy Old Town’s Events Director who brings us the “Little Darlin's Street Party” event to Gary & Dave our volunteer staff and to all of the Spectators and Cruisers with or without their cars, who come out “Rain or Shine, Hot or Cold” to make this a great evening in our “Home Town”.

We hope Scotty is enjoying his vacation.
See you all Next Week “Same Time, Same Place”.
