It was warm sunny
Sunday afternoon, and the cold temperatures from the last 2 nights
finally gave way for the 1st Annual Pony Show at Old Town. I arrived at
little after 11am Gary, Dave, & Miguel had set up the cars on Trophy
Row, and at their usual duties. I checked in with Allan & Nikki, we had
well over 100 cars by then. I started taking my photos and made my
rounds down Trophy Row. I had checked in with Steve K4SLB when I
arrived, and updated him on the car count as I made my way. I also
checked in on the new Old Town Amateur Radio Repeater.
I stopped by the Cruise office, where Tracy had her table with door
prizes set up, and across from her was Mesha & Chris selling 50/50
tickets. Mesha said that the 50/50 tickets were selling fast. I made my
way down block 2 towards the stage, and saw quite a few regulars, mixed
in with the cruisers that just came for the show. I saw Steve doing a
great job DJ'ing the music at the stage, and by that time Nikki was
setting up the awards on the stage table, these awards were nicely done,
a star with the pony in the middle. Esther was passing the stage and
stopped by to say Hello. I finished going up block 1 taking photos all
the way, by that time it was already 2:00 PM. Gary & Dave started to
walk down Trophy Row surveying the cars, for awards later at the stage.
The car count was 149. A very good showing for this new venue at Old
Town. Topped off with the great weather, and a good crowd of spectators,
this was nice way to finish the long Thanksgiving weekend with the
family.
I finally made my way down to block 4, ahead of Gary & Dave, to see the
last couple of cars that came in. The cars were parked almost down to
the end of block 4, a very good mix of Mustang's, I don't think I saw no
2 cars the same. For the Mustang buff, this was a great show to be at,
and I did see the car owners bartering among themselves for different
parts for their cars. This show seemed to bring a large community of
Mustang owners together to appreciate each others cars, as well as show
off their own. I think everybody who attended enjoyed themselves. At
4:00PM it was time to go to the stage for the awards, Tracy had moved
her table to the stage to finish giving away the door prizes. The 50/50
was over $300.00 and was given away to a very happy cruiser. Once the
door prizes were all given out it was time for the awards, Allan
announced that the awards were in no order, and there was no best of
show, but that the 40 award winners were all best of show winners. Allan
called out the winners & Nikki gave the awards out. A great group of
people got awards, a good mix of regular cruisers and newbies for the
show.
After the awards were given out at the stage, Allan made his
announcements to all the car owners to make sure any new cruisers were
aware of what to do, during the cruise. The cruise staff quickly got
into place and started lining up the cars. At 5:00 PM the 'First Annual
Pony Run' got under way. The spectators truly enjoyed this cruise of
Mustang's, you saw just about every year and model drive down the
bricks. 149 Mustang's made their way down the bricks, to end a great
holiday weekend. Thanks to Tracy & Allan for making this first Pony Show
a success. Thanks to all members of the Cruise staff who helped out to
make this show happen. And a Special Thanks to all the Old Town
Merchants, who make all this possible, not only the regular cruises that
happen every week, but these type of specialty shows as well.
Hope to see you in 2010, for the next Pony Show at Old Town....
