When we arrived on
Trophy Row in our '67 Dodge Dart 270 it started to rain we hoped it
would be done with in time for tonight’s events. Gary had his PT
Cruiser out tonight as he had brought his customized Kart ready for
Saturday’s Annual Cruise there were various signs of the
preparations taking place for this event. Tom & Bunny arrived in
their '87 Chevy Suburban like many cruisers they have reserved a
hotel room for the weekend. The four of us had a leisurely meal at
Flippers, Tommy and Bill & Doris in their '87 Chevy S-10 had been
the only arrivals. Bunny needed a couple of accessories for her
“Poodle Skirt” outfit which we got on the way back to Trophy row.
Ted arrived in his '06 Nissan "Red Racer" and parked next to us,
tonight was to be the “Wedding” event and there was hardly anyone
around the rain had stopped but the skies were heavy we hoped that
later arrivals would come as they have the last few weeks.
Bert & Ernie arrived with Mitchell who
celebrated his second birthday last month in their "Elvis Tribute"
PT Cruiser, Jerry & Judi were in their '86 Fiero GT, Mike in his '63
Corvair Spyder, Dave, Jo Ellen & Morgan arrived without their '63
Avanti not wanting to miss being part of tonight’s festivities,
Morgan is still excitedly recounting his recent visit to Graceland.
Butch was escorted by a Grandchild in a stroller tonight, Ken &
Wanda brought out their '78 "Indy Pace Car" Corvette, Jim & Deb in
their '69 Firebird and Laura in her '98 Firebird brought the final
cruiser car count to 11.
“The Blue Suede Review” had arrived and were setting up Shawn as
lead guitar & Sarah, Tommy on the keyboard, Jimi on the drums and
Paul on bass guitar. Bill & Karen had the memorabilia table set up,
Mike Singer KJ4GNI was at the controls of the “Blue Room”, Tracy was
welcoming the Bridal parties, Scotty & Gary were busy trying
to be everywhere at once.
The spectator crowd was building very slowly and included our die
hard regulars “Jazzmine and The Tropical Breeze Group” Glenda, Coy
and Jan. Charles had arrived with his caregivers Mary & Larry, Donna
from the Leather Store kept checking on the evening’s progress,
Tracy’s parents Nadia & Jim with their friends Jerry & Loraine,
Dwight & Vicky arrived, the final sound checks were being made and
the first set began.
Radio Check Ins included Graham G4HFG, Emil KJ4GNH, Melvin KF4PN and
Ed WB8BHL
After the first set Steve awarded
The Cruiser of the
Week to Laura Pennington, NO4OO in her 1998 Firebird. With
a lack of early arrivals there had been no real interest in 50/50
tickets so the Cruise-A-Matic will stay at $ 125.00 for next week.
Bunny, Laura and I had donned our Poodle skirts to help create some
era specific atmosphere as we helped Tracy with the “Weddings”
during the second set. It may not have been an extremely large crowd
but it was a loyal, enthusiastic crowd who made it a night to
remember for Wendy & Alan Cowburn and Tim & Sue Thompson who renewed
their wedding vows everyone enjoyed the event and the rest of the
evening had a festive family atmosphere. Congratulations to the two
couples, I hope they will be the first of many.
