The Saturday Nite Cruise®
Established in 1990
Rain or Shine, 52 Weeks a year!
Old Town Shopping Attraction.
5770 West 192
Kissimmee, Florida

As usual we would meet up with Steve Mc, K4SKM, today he was in his Model A, at the “Top of the Hill” in our 67 Dodge Dart,. We would arrive at the gate that was manned by Lee just before 1:30. Old Town would be fully dressed in “Christmas” decorations. By the tree would be the the Elf’s Toy Station. The tables were stacked with gifts for the kids. There must have been nearly 60 cars in place already. Many of them would also be decorated.

As we made our way to Block 4 we spotted Gary & Wanda already parked with their ‘55 Chevy. Linda and Wanda would drop the gates and we would situate ourselves for the days events. Emil, KJ4GNH would come down and join us for the day in his '48 Ford. Graham, G4HFG, from Oldham England would check in over the radio to spend the day.

Linda & I would take our first trip to the top of “Trophy Row”. Bruce & Sandy would have their Split Window Corvette by the shop. Jennifer had the "F-85" in it’s place of honor, Butch was at their monthly show. The “Looney Bin” would be fully occupied. Bob would have his ‘72 GMC in his favorite spot, Butch T would have the  '64 Comet nearby and Larry would be out in his ‘47 Chevy. Cris & Larry would have his latest Falcon across from them as would Mike have his ‘65 GTO. John would have his
'57 Chevy 210, in the mix as would James have his '67 Firebird, Tony & Marianne would be a little farther up with their SS454 Monte Carlo. Russ & Phyllis would have their Chevelle nearby. Most of the “Redline Rodders” would be in place, Ben, Karen and the kids would be behind the stairs. Most of the rest of the “Regulars” were still rolling in. The 3 Amigos and Charlene would be in their spots and at the top of Block 1 would be Bill and his son with “Showtime”. Once we were back at the car Conrad and Samantha would arrive to Block 4 in 1NFT57. Bill & Doris stopped for their chat before heading up to the “Stairs”.

Tony, K4AVD up in Wisconsin would come in over the radio to remind us it was time to eat. T Rod, KT4ROD, Laura, NO4OO, Ted, KE4TTE and Emil, KJ4GNH would head out a little early for lunch, Mike from Virginia wanted me to get a few special shots of his ‘69 Camaro on our way. More cruisers that included Bob with his '68 SS396 Chevelle, Bert & “Ernie” in their Comet wagon, Pablo & Nilda in their
VW and Lynn in her '49 Ford Pickup would be parking. We chose to dine alfresco once again, Jane would take great care of us as usual. The cars kept rolling in while we were eating. All of the "Flippers" regulars would also make their way to eat. Pep & Nancy along with Jim would also choose the patio. Just before we left we all heard the rumble of Mark and Nick arrive in the '63 Falcon and '32 Ford.

As we made our way back to the cars all of the spaces in the first 2 Blocks were full, Don & Tara would be out in their Camaro in block 3 across form Gary & Kathy’s Fairlane, most of Block 4 was now filling up with more that would include Jeff in his newly painted ‘59 Edsel, Dan Z & Liz in his ‘41 Willys, Dave & Nancy in the American Austin and Doc in his “Tater Truck”. Roberta was doing a fine business at the beer tent. John, KG4BFJ would also join in with us tonight. He had his antenna farm parked in spectator parking, Doug and Trish would be out in their ‘68 Bronco, Tom & Lori along with Tom & Chris would join them behind the roller coaster a little later. Tony & Donna would be back from up North and bring out the Mustang. Steve & Amanda would be in their ‘56 Chevy. Ray arrived a little later in his
32 Ford Coupe and was at the bottom of Block 4. Neil & Elaine would also be out in the ‘60 Corvette, Rodger would bring out his Jaguar. Ron & Rose would have both the ‘41 Packard and the ‘37 Ford out tonight. Jim would be in his ‘72 Challenger parked next to more Mopars. There were a lot of cars that I didn't know who they belonged to, maybe more “Snowbirds” or some of the Cruisers are changing cars again or we are getting our casual cruisers to start coming back out to join in on the fun.

In the last hour we did get a bit of a drizzle, this only made the overhangs a little crowded for a while. It certainly didn’t deter the spectators or Cruisers from enjoying the day. Thank you to Allan for the “Free Rinse” just before Cruise time. As usual the rest of the night was a blur of conversations and extensions of friendship. It certainly does not seem like we spent the whole day in our “Home Town”, except for the fact that the feet get real tired from all of the walking, I know I could just set there by my car but now jus how much fun would that be? There are just so many shops and people to visit on any given day let alone a Saturday night.

Esther stopped by with the "Flag Winners" just after 8:20, Jenn Johnston, our December 2008 "Cruiser of the Month" in her '64 Olds F-85 Cutlass who was having Pep & Nancy and Jim K riding along, was led by Dave & Lee for the first time, followed by the cars from the top 3 Blocks to block 4 that becomes the "Staging Area" for Old Town's signature event. Mike Singer, KJ4GNI, who had been at the controls of the "Blue Room", playing a mix of nostalgic music and radio "Jingles", gave the safety announcements, played the National Anthem, "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed, "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise", for this the 964th running of this traditionThe Cruisers made the turn at "Kids Town" on to the "Bricks" of "Deac Hundley Avenue", Mike Singer announced the Flag Winners as the rest of the 254 cars in parade formation cruised past, delighting an extremely large crowd of cheering spectators along both sides of the Avenue. "Rain or Shine" every Saturday night of the year, there is nothing quite like it for the "Cruisers" and it is always a treat for those watching it from the sidewalks and boulevards.

Thank you Old Town for letting us, the curators of this "Rolling Display of Automotive History", the cars that are the "Stars", to be their guests this evening. Thank you to the Old Town Merchants Association and the Sponsors of this event, "Valvoline", the "General Store", the "A&W", "Out of this World Embroidery", "Wound 'N Around", Pepsi, Roberts Brothers, the "Tropical Breeze" & "Flippers" just to name a few. Thank you to Allan, Joe, Ron, Gary Lee, Dave, Esther, CJ, who held down Florida Plaza tonight, Mesha, Chrisanne and the entire Cruise Staff and fellow Cruisers for making our 315th consecutive Saturday a fun and safe one.

On to the "Flag Winners".

Tonight's random drawing winners received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" and the new "Clock Pin", along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from Valvoline and a drink from the Tropical Breeze.

Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
