Linda & I would head out Vine street, US 192, in our
'61 Corvair. Steve Mc would be out
with the Model Aer's for the Veterans Day parade, it wasn't long before
we arrived at our "Home Town".
Gary would be at the point. As we made the turn at
Old Town Clock
Juan Morales, our November 2008 "Cruiser of the Month"
would be parked in his place of honor.
Dave
was by the Cruise office to register the Cruisers.
The
"Looney Bin" was home to Bob's GMC pickup,
Butch in his
'64 Comet, Cris & Larry
in their
Mustang and Larry in his '47 Chevy.
Across from them was Jim in his
'67 GTO, Mark with his
'54 Nash and Mike
in his '65 GTO.
Gary &
Kathy's
Fairlane was by the gate and
Kathy
would drop the gate for us so that we could cross over Florida Plaza to
our parking spot.
Graham, G4HFG from Oldham, England
came in over the radio as I was backing in. He will actually be on
"Trophy Row" next week, for a short stay in Florida. It was cool
out, Linda chose a few "puddles" of Sunlight to stay warm. Before we
headed up on our first trip to the top of "Trophy Row" we would visit
with Joe and Stan the "Pacer Man". I would encounter James in his
"Firebird". Bruce and
Sandy had the split window Corvette by the shop. Many of the
"Redline
Rodders" were in their usual spots. Don & Jackie
were next to the stairs, their Mustang convertible was across from them, Karen and the Kids
would be behind them. Pablo & Nilda would be under the stairs. Darrell has his LTD just North of the stage. Gary would
have his '36 Ford in it's regular spot next to Bob's '70 Chevy pickup.
All of the 3 Amigos were in place. Emil, KJ4GNH, was in the spot he likes to call his own with his
'48
Ford. On the way back down to the car
Bob & Marge would back their
'65
Rambler Ambassador convertible into his spot. Bob
would bring his
'68 SS396 Chevelle and park next to
us. Nick & Fran would follow in the
'32 Ford 5 Window Coupe. Mark would bring his
"Blown to Be Wild" '63 Falcon
and take the spot next to the coupe. It was time, you guessed it, dinner
at
"Flippers",
on the way up John would have his
'57 Chevy
to the South of the stage.
Jane would take great care
of us as usual, John & Rich came to the patio as did many other
"Regulars". More cars would make their way in to town.
Including
Louie in his
'50 Ford. John B in his
'66 Vette.
Once we were back in Block 4, the cars kept rolling in. Neil & Elaine
that would have their '60 Corvette across
from us.
Roberta the "Beer Lady"
was doing a fine business. Doc would be in the
"Tater Truck" parked one over
from the dumpster, Suzanne joined him later. Mike & Linda in their
'71 SS Chevelle were next to them.
Don & Tara were out in a couple of their favorite Camaros. Gary & Wanda
would bring out their
'55 Chevy. The "3
Stooges"
"Bo" in his
Corvair,
John R in his
Mustang and
Bob in his
'36 Ford
Humpback, would make their way to the area behind the roller coaster. "Red Racer" Ted, KE4TTE would
be out in a Tie! He had been taking pictures at Joe & Penny's wedding
earlier today. Roger F would have his
'56 Chevy out. Once again it was a
night of old friends and new ones. The cars the music and the people.
This is what keeps us coming back.
Esther & Cordell
stopped by
with the "Flag Winners" just after 8:20,
Juan Morales, our November 2008 "Cruiser of the Month" in his '55
Chevrolet 3100 pickup was led by
Dave,
Lee &
Miguel
followed by the cars from the top 3
Blocks to block 4 that becomes the "Staging Area" for Old Town's
signature event. Mike Singer, KJ4GNI, who had been at the controls of
the "Blue Room", playing a mix of nostalgic music and radio "Jingles",
gave the safety announcements. Took time out to honor Old Town and the
Saturday Nite Cruise's founder, "Deac" Hundley on this the fifth
anniversary of his passing with a moment of silence. "Without Deac we
wouldn't have this great event every Saturday night for the past 18
years." He then played the National Anthem,
"Wolfman Jack" proclaimed,
"It's the Saturday Nite Cruise", for this the 960th running of
this tradition.
The Cruisers made the turn at "Kids
Town" on to the "Bricks" of "Deac Hundley Avenue", Mike Singer announced
the Flag Winners as the rest of the 258 cars in parade formation cruised
past, delighting a very large crowd of cheering spectators along both sides
of the Avenue. "Rain or Shine" every Saturday night of the year, there is nothing quite like it for the
"Cruisers" and it is always a treat for those watching it from the
sidewalks and boulevards.
Thank you Old Town for letting us, the curators of this "Rolling Display
of Automotive History", the cars that are the "Stars", to be their
guests this evening. Thank you to the Old Town Merchants Association and
the Sponsors of this event, "Valvoline", the "General Store", the "A&W",
"Out of this World Embroidery",
"Wound 'N Around", Pepsi, Roberts Brothers, the
"Tropical Breeze" & "Flippers"
just to name a few.
Thank you to Allan,
Joe,
Ron,
Gary,
Lee,
Dave,
Esther,
Miguel,
Mesha,
Chrisanne and the entire
Cruise Staff and fellow Cruisers for making
our 311th consecutive Saturday a fun and safe one.
On to the "Flag Winners".
Tonight's
random drawing winners received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag"
and the new
"Clock Pin", along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from Valvoline
