The Saturday Nite Cruise®
Established in 1990
Rain or Shine, 52 Weeks a year!
Old Town Shopping Attraction.
5770 West 192
Kissimmee, Florida

It is Saturday so, yes the trek to Old Town takes place like clockwork, the same drill, meeting with other Cruisers for the run out the Parkway to our nearby home town. Today Steve, K4SKM in his '64 Corvair would be the only other one in the little caravan. Mike, N4HHA and Kristen, KJ4BST in their '63 Corvair Spyder would be joining us before dinner, they were in Melbourne for a HAM radio swap meet since early in the morning. Gary was at the point, Kathy was by the Haunted House to register the Cruisers. There were many Nissan Titans behind the "Entertainment Shop" on Victory Lane, this was the second day of their meet and would be leaving town at 5:00. As we made the turn at Old Town Clock in our '61 Corvair, Bill Mabry, our October 2008 "Cruiser of the Month" would be parked in his place of honor. The "Looney Bin" only had Bob in his GMC pickup and Larry in his '47 Chevy. Gary & Kathy's Fairlane was next to the carport. James had his "Firebird" parked at the bottom of Block 3 by Ron's '36 Chevy pickup. Our Corvairs were the first to be in Block 4 today. Graham, G4HFG from Oldham, England was on the radio several times through out the day as was Tony, K4AVD from Wisconsin. He and Sharon, WB4ACE want to say hello to all of their Cruiser friends and also said "We sure miss all of you guys". Their bunch up there will end the Cruising Season with a "Fall Color Run" to look at all of the trees that have changed their colors, he hopes to take some photos and send them to me to post on line. Linda and I would take our first walk to the top of "Trophy Row". There weren't too many cars in town yet, the Regional NSRA show in Tampa would have many of our regulars in attendance there as would the once a month Chick-Fil-A Show in Clermont later tonight. We did find Bob in his '63 Corvair at the top of Block 1. Emil, KJ4GNH, was over at the NSRA, he is a safety inspector for them and was needed at the show. Pablo & Nilda would bring out their VW and a new "67 Chevy and park next to the stage. Lynn would be out and Coy stopped by for a visit. Bob would park his  '68 SS396 Chevelle next in line by us, Marge would join him later for dinner and the Cruise. Mike & Kristen would arrive just after T Rod, KT4ROD made it out. Conrad would take his favorite spot with his 1NFT57 Pickup just after Angel in his Mustang would park at the bottom of Block 4. Roberta the "Beer Lady" would be setting up the Beer Tent by now.

It was time to head to "Flippers", there were more Cruisers on "Trophy Row" "Scary Larry" would be out in "Big John's" '34 Ford, many of the "Redline Rodders" were in their favorite spots, Bob & Marge would back their '65 Rambler Ambassador convertible into his spot next to Don & Jackie's Mustang. The 3 Amigos were now in place. Mark would bring his "Blown to Be Wild" Falcon on to the bricks as we crossed the Avenue. Jane  would take care of us in her usual fashion. Pep & Nancy would dine alfresco as we did. There were several cars that would make their way in as we were eating. On the way back down even a few more were in town, Ray in his '57 Chevy, Rich was riding with him, Ray's '32 Coupe was parked next to him. Richard was in the Mike Kelly shack.

Just after 6:00, Doc & Suzanne in the "Tater Truck" would take a spot down from us, Bob in his '36 Ford, "Bo" in his Corvair and John in his Mustang would arrive. Bert & Ernie would be out in their Comet Wagon parked in the bottom of Block 3. The spectator crowd was growing and more cars were arriving for the event. The "Repeatles" would be set up and ready to play on time, "The Dukes" were on their corner drawing a crowd as well tonight. Charlie would stop by after spending time in Tampa, to pick up his newsletter and check out the cars.

The time flies after 6:00 the next thing I realized Esther and Cordell stopped by with the "Flag Winners" just after 8:20, Bill Mabry, our October 2008 "Cruiser of the Month" in his '53 Ford pickup "Showtime" was led by Dave, Lee & Gary followed by the rest of the cars from the top 3 Blocks to block 4 that becomes the "Staging Area" for Old Town's signature event. Mike Singer, KJ4GNI, who had been at the controls of the "Blue Room", playing a mix of nostalgic music and radio "Jingles", gave the safety announcements. Played the National Anthem, "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed, "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise", for this the 955th running of this traditionThe Cruisers made the turn at "Kids Town" on to the "Bricks" of "Deac Hundley Avenue", Mike Singer announced the Flag Winners as the rest of the 156 cars in parade formation cruised past,  delighting a large crowd of cheering spectators along both sides of the Avenue. "Rain or Shine" every Saturday night of the year, there is nothing quite like it for the "Cruisers" and it is always a treat for those watching it from the sidewalks and boulevards.

Thank you Old Town for letting us, the curators of this "Rolling Display of Automotive History", the cars that are the "Stars", to be their guests this evening. Thank you to the Old Town Merchants Association and the Sponsors of this event, "Valvoline", the "General Store", the "A&W", "Out of this World Embroidery" "Wound 'N Around", Pepsi, Roberts Brothers, the "Tropical Breeze" & "Flippers" just to name a few. Thank you to Allan, Joe, Ron, Gary Kathy, Chrisanne, Lee, Dave, Esther, Miguel, Mesha and the entire Cruise Staff and fellow Cruisers for making our 307th consecutive Saturday a fun and safe one.

On to the "Flag Winners".

Tonight's random drawing winners received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" and the new "Clock Pin", along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from Valvoline and a drink from the Tropical Breeze.

Congratulations to the Checkered Flag Winners!
