The Saturday Nite Cruise®
Established in 1990
Rain or Shine, 52 Weeks a year!
Old Town Shopping Attraction.
5770 West 192
Kissimmee, Florida

Mike, N4HHA in his  '63 Corvair convertible would join Linda, K4EIO & me, K4SLB on our trek to our "Home Town", today we would bring out our '61 Corvair Coupe. We arrived just after 1:30, right on time. Gary would greet us with that smile of his. Bratt would be in front of the Coffee Shop, Kathy C would be there as well. As we made our turn by the Clock we noticed that the Loony Bin would have Bob in his GMC and  Cris & Larry in the '70 Mustang. As we made our way to Block 4, Roger & Company would be in their favorite spots including James who was in his '67 Firebird, on the west side of Block 3, Gary & Kathy's Fairlaine was in it's spot on the other side. Linda took care of the Gates for us. We were the first to arrive on Block 4, I don't even think were were set up before Bill & Doris would stop by for a chat. It was Hot out but then again that is why I live in Florida. The weatherman said that we would get some rain but it sure didn't look like we would. Brian would be the next to join in with us in the line up, Quintino, who is now 17 month's old, let him bring out the Chevelle. It was time to head up to the top of "Trophy Row" and drop off the newsletters.

Most of the "Redline Rodders" would be in place, Bob & Marge were with them as well in their '40 Buick. Darrell had his LTD just where he likes it. Emil and his "High School Flame" were in place. The "3 Amigos" are a little mixed up in just where their spots are in Block 1 and Mark was in a Mustang?. Those 3 Guys from Winter Haven were at the top of Block 1. Bill had his "Show Time" pickup across from it's usual place the other Bill would have his '54 Merc pickup next to the stairs and Leon would have his '57 Chevy pickup nearby. It must have been the heat and the promise of the rain that had the early car count low. On the way back down we came across Russ and the other Tony by the Chevelle and Mustang, Tony D was across the street with his Monte Carlo. Marianne and the other wives were in the shade with Marge.

Once we were back to the car, Joe & Miguel would stop by for a chat, Winston would arrive just before Roberta the "Beer Lady", who had taken another trip to Michigan and was back with photos of the grandkids. Ron & Renee would choose a spot just down from us for their '61 Caddy. It wasn't long before Nick would arrive in the '32 Ford Coupe, Ashley & Daniel were with him, Fran brought out the daily driver and Mark, working on his Falcon, was with him too. Gary & Wanda followed them in with their '55 Chevy and took spots just down from Ron. It was time to head to "Flippers" for dinner, I waited behind for a few minutes, I was watching Quintino's car and waiting for T Rod, KT4ROD who was on his way out. After a few minutes he arrived and we Radioed T Rod's order to Mike and Jane took it. Once Brian got back we headed up just in time to be served. The flow of cars coming in was pretty steady by now. Joe & Kay were out in the Camaro, Louie & Linda were in their Nova Wagon. John who brought out his '57 Chevy and Rich would arrive to dine just before we headed back down to Block 4.

I stopped in to see Mike Singer in the Blue Room, Shane arrived in his '57 Chevy and was able to get his favorite spot. Dave Dean had his Mustang under the canopy, I think I even saw "Big Daddy" Darrell but he didn't stay very long. Richard was in the Mike Kelley's booth and his El Camino was being guarded by Becky and Doug in it's place of honor. John B would park his '66 'Vette just at the bottom of Block 3. Ed, WB8BHL would stop out by now as would "Red Racer Ted, KE4TTE" to visit and take a few photos. Jaime and his granddaughter would arrive in the '67 Cobra, Doc & Suzanne in their Mach 1, would join us in Block 4. By 6:30 or so the cars would start to stream in steadily.  The Dukes" would set up on their corner as their crowd waited in anticipation. The spectator crowd was extremely large, cheek to cheek you might even say. I heard that Allan was back in the states, Chicago to be exact. Linda tracked down Rolf, he is the guy that we have seen almost every Saturday night in his "Chair of Light", her interview with him is in this weeks issue. Word sure got around that we would be bringing our Wednesday Nite at the "Square" cruise, to Old Town for a Wednesday visit next week, so we can catch Dwight's "Tribute to the King" show. Charlie did stop for his newsletter a little later, Tara & Don were excited about a new monthly car show at the Altamonte, Steak and Shake, so that she can get some of those Volusia County cars a place to go. I knew it was almost time for the Cruise to start, our late arrivals just drove past.

Mesha stopped by with the "Flag Winners" just after 8:20, Rich & his son Doug Stewart, our July 2008 "Cruiser of the Month" in their '67 El Camino was led by Bratt, Lee & Gary, followed by the rest of the cars from the top 3 Blocks to block 4 that becomes the "Staging Area" for Old Town's signature event. Mike Singer who had been at the controls of the "Blue Room", playing a mix of nostalgic music and radio "Jingles", gave the safety announcements. Played the National Anthem, "Wolfman Jack" proclaimed, "It's the Saturday Nite Cruise", for this the 941st running of this tradition. Bratt & Lee would lead the Cruisers up the even side of "Deac Hundley Avenue", Mike Singer announced the Flag Winners as the rest of the 216 cars in parade formation, made the turn by "Kids Town", handed an American Flag by Jerri, then on to the "Bricks", delighting a very large crowd of cheering spectators, along both sides of the Avenue. "Rain or Shine" every Saturday night of the year, there is nothing quite like it for the "Cruisers" and it is always a treat for those watching it from the sidewalks and boulevards.

Thank you Old Town for letting us, the curators of this "Rolling Display of Automotive History", the cars that are the "Stars", to be their guests this evening. Thank you to the Old Town Merchants Association and the Sponsors of this event, "Valvoline", the "General Store", the "A&W", "Out of this World Embroidery",  Pepsi, Roberts Brothers, Race Depot & "Flippers" just to name a few. Thank you to Joe, Nikki, Lee, Ron, Bratt, Gary, Dave, and the entire Cruise Staff and fellow Cruisers for making our 293rd consecutive Saturday a fun and safe one.

Get well Ben, we all missed you this weekend!

Tonight's random drawing winners that and received the coveted "Old Town Checkered Flag" along with $25 cash, A Case of Oil from Valvoline and a drink from the Tropical Breeze.
