October 17th 2008
Friday October 17th, another beautiful Fall evening for
our cruise. This is one reason we reside in Florida. Buzz and Sue were
visiting friends again when we arrived . Stan came in around 2:30 but
Maryann had to work and couldn't make it. Our friend Ernie, who was in
New Mexico for awhile made it out tonight. We were glad to have him
back. Then Bob arrived with his SSR and had his friend Larry Morris with
him. Larry is recovering from back surgery and didn't want to bring his
own cruiser. Thanks Bob and get well Larry. Pablo and Nilda brought
their 96 Ford Taurus, then Joe and Penny showed up with their Ford
Ranger. They gave us our invitation to their wedding which will be held
in November. Thanks and we wish you both the best of luck.
We found another rare cruiser tonight. Gary and Susan Lord from
Quakertown, Pa. owns this beautiful red 2002 Avanti. It is believed that
only 50 or so of these cars were manufactured. This particular car was
used as a show car at the L A Auto Show, also Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and
Atlanta Auto Shows. in 2002. The Lord's purchased this car from the
Avanti factory about 3 years ago. They also have an 85 Avanti and an 88
LSC.
We had a new band on stage tonight, Wildlife and Jungle Brass. We talked
to a few of them and they were anxious to play at Old Town. The crowd
seemed to like them and they assured us, they would come back. Tracy is
finding some good entertainment for us.
Ike and Nancy managed to be with us tonight. with their 77 Corvette,
Ryan had his 1989 Cadillac on the brick street also. Ryan can only make
it every 6 weeks but he got lucky tonight and won a flag.
Congratulations. George and George were back after a week off. George
Sr. and Mary Lou will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on
Halloween night, October 31. Congratulations to both of you. Tony (the
loser), Ken and Audrey and Bob and Norma were parked with them. They
like to stay together.
We had a rare visit tonight by the Dukes who were singing their favorite
Doo Wop tunes on the corner. They usually don't come out on a Friday
night but it is always good to see them.
Gerald (Mr. Pontiac) was back on block 4. His son and daughter-in-law
were with him (a very nice couple). He was having trouble with his brake
lights and turn signals. His son found a bad fuse, so we guess
everything will be alright.
Ted, our ace photographer, is cruiser of the month for October and has
asked us to join him in his honored spot next week. We consider this an
honor and we thank you Ted. We want to thank Tracy and Jeri for the
great entertainment at Old Town. Also thanks to Allan, Dave, Gary, Lee
and all the rest of our great staff for all they do for us cruisers.
Thanks to the many merchants that sponsor our cruise. We had a large
spectator crowd tonight who came out to appreciate our 162 cruisers. We
thank them all and hope they come out again to enjoy what Old-Town has
to offer.
Our 50/50 of $77.00 went home with one of our flag winners. Our
Cruise-O-Matic will be $375.00 next week. No takers tonight.
See you next week!
