October 10th 2008
Friday already and time for another cruise. It is the
middle of October and it was quite warm and humid. It did not look much
like rain as we loaded our S 10 and headed for Old-town. Buzz and Sue
were busy visiting all their friends in the shops and trying to keep
cool. A little later Doug showed up with his black El Camino. Dave and
Bev came in from Winter Haven, Toby the PT frogman, Pablo & Nilda, Bob
Butler with his SSR (Bob got lucky Wednesday night and won the
Cruise-A-Matic), but he wasn't there awwwww, Ted, our ace photographer,
showed up and by 5 o'clock we had a full line of cruisers. You don't
have to be early but we just like to socialize with our family of
cruisers.
We had to dine alone at the Steakhouse tonight but a regular spectator
and friend of the cruisers, (Tony), came by with some donuts for our
dessert. Thank you Tony. We headed out to socialize with our cruiser
friends. Harry Hoxie and wife Kris came all the way from Ft. Myers to
show their beautiful 2007 Tundra Toyota Truck. It seems like we attract
cruisers from all over. Bert and Laverne have their PT Cruiser looking
very good with the Elvis theme.
Two of our PT Cruiser friends were right behind the Wolfman on block 4,
followed by Jon and Angie with their great Pontiac Formula, then Gerald
( Mr. Pontiac) had his 79 Pontiac. It's good to see it back on the
street.
Does anyone remember a white Ford truck that was covered with decals?
Well this good looking 1994 Ford F 150 belongs to Tom and Trisca
Riopelle from Zypher Hills. They have repainted it with Flames on the
sides. Awesome display of Halloween theme in the bed of his truck. If
you see this cruiser, be sure you check it out.
We had a very nice chat with some new friends we met tonight. They are
from Scotland and England. Some have been over before but a few haven't.
They are here for a 3 weeks visit and said they are having a great time,
especially at Old Town. We mention the cruise on Wednesday Night and
they said they would be there. They are staying in Davenport. We asked
them how they were being treated and they said great by everyone.
Remember we want to welcome all these guests who come to visit us. We
might want to visit them some day.
A while back we wrote about a plane flying backwards. Well we got
responses. People wanted to know how. Well it can't be done with a
modern plane. This was a J 3 Piper Cub. These planes were so light and
could fly very slow. He had to have his full flaps down, these are just
like air brakes, just like he was going to land. The trick is, he had to
have at least a 45 mph headwind. He would be flying approximately 35 mph
but the the headwind would be pushing him backwards 10 mph. His name was
Felix Klesmith which is our cruiser Dennis's grandfather. This is a neat
trick if you can do it.
We were visited by the Mighty Titans tonight. This is a club of great
trucks and were on block 4 of trophy row. We welcome them back.
A couple of other cruisers were Wilson Flores and wife Lux from
Kissimmee, St. Cloud, had their 2002 Mitsubishi tonight, also Angelo
Rosado from St. Cloud with his beautiful 1987 Chevy Caprice.
Doug Kendel took home our 50/50 of $58.00. He was also a flag winner. No
takers for the Cruise-O-Matic. We want to thank Old-Town and our staff
for another great Friday Night Cruise of 147 vehicles.
See you next week.
