The hottest day of the year, so far that is. Linda &
I headed out a little early to meet up with one of Old Town's newest
merchants. Hank Klein, the proprietor of the
Rtography shop
in suite 173. It was about 3:30 and there were about 40 spaces conned
off for tonight's event.
The first person we spotted was
Kathy C. We backed our
Ranchero into a spot next to the
stairs in Block 2.
We headed out for the meeting with Hank. A very interesting
concept in Digital photography processing, stop by his store and
check out what he has to offer.
Gary had made it back to Block 2 by
the time we got back to the car. Fred, who was filling in for Shawn on
lead guitar was setting up his gear. We would head off for something to
eat so that we would be back in place by 5:00 to greet Cruisers as they
arrived.
Dave,
Esther &
Mesha brought out their
'83 Grand Marquis. "Mustang Mike"
was joined by Emma. "Lucky Louie" had his favorite
'52 Ford out. Ray was
in his '32 Ford 3 Window Coupe.
Bill & Doris would situate
their T-Bird in the second spot to the South of the stage, just where
they like it. The crowd was building for
Dwight's
arrival, "The Blue Suede Review" was warming up on
stage. Nick would arrive in his
'32 Ford, Fran & Fenne would bring
out the Camaro. Bert & "Ernie" would make it out in their PT Cruiser and
park next to the stage. Laura, NO4OO was next to arrive in her Firebird.
T Rod, KT4ROD was riding along with her.
Kristen, KJ4BST, would bring out
the Mini Cooper. Steve, Charlie & Marie brought out the '77 Coupe deVile.
Tracy would make her way to
"Trophy Row" to check on and join in on her "Rock at the Clock" event
and our Cruise-In. George in his
'72
Monte Carlo would find a place to park.
The rapidly growing crowd of spectators was anxiously
awaiting for the show to start, many of them were admiring our cars
and filling the nearby shops. Joe & Penny would bring out their Ranger
pickup and join the Wednesday Nite Cruise-In Family. Tony & Marianne
would make it out without their Cruiser to enjoy the show. Butch would
also join us later. Pep & Nancy would bring out their Mustang
convertible and take the last spot South of the stage, Lynn would arrive
a few minutes later in her '49 Ford pickup. Leon would also be out with
his better half in the '57 Chevy pickup.
Even "Cousin Vinney" would brave the heat and come out tonight.
The first set started and we were entertained! I
know I keep going on about how good Dwight is, even the "Blue Suede
Review" band that backs him up is great, it always seems to introduce
new members and fill in performers as it is comprised of many musicians
that play in other bands. Fred was filling in for Shawn that was at
another gig, but then Shawn came out and played too. There was another
Shawn or Sean that did a number drumming. I mean these guys sound good
on that stage.
After the first set "Mustang Mike"
and I took the stage for the drawings and awards. Linda, Emma, Burt &
Nancy had been selling the 50/50 tickets and we had lots of good prizes
including a few from the Merchants of Old Town. We gave out the
"Cruiser of the Week', award, to "Lucky
Louie" Piazza,
Cruiser #9 in his '52 Ford Customline. Of course we
Thanked Old Town for inviting us out on a weekly basis and for hosting
us. The $95 50/50 went home with Lynn Olson Cruiser # 175, she gave $5
to young Adam that diligently assisted us by picking the tickets.
The "Cruise-A-Matic" rolls up to $60 next week. Randy Strickland,
Cruiser # 109 wasn't out tonight. The Cruise-In was officially over, a
few of the Cruisers left and the Rock & Roll started again. I spent a
while in the "Blue Room" reminiscing with Mike Singer, the "Voice of Old
Town".
During the next 2 sets we enjoyed the performances on
stage, Barry
Porter another friend of Dwight's came on stage to perform a number,
A Hula dancer from Disney joined in a few Hawaii numbers. The only thing
that I know for sure about "A Tribute to the King Show" sponsored by
Budweiser, the King of beers, is that you will not be disappointed. The
"Guest Stars" are a very good feature. Thank You, Dwight.
Next week Dwight will be in Memphis for the Elvis
week and will be competing in the
Ultimate
Elvis Contest, we all wish him well. Don't fear, "The Blue Suede
Review" will be on stage and opening it up to any of you that would like
to give your best Elvis performance.
