It was just after 4:00 when Linda & I arrived in our
'60
Ranchero at Old Town for the
first official night for this event at it's new venue. First off I would
like to Thank Old Town for hosting the "Duke" Davis, Memorial, Wednesday
Nite Cruise-In, featuring
"Mustang Mike". It is very special that it
co insides with the "Rock at the Clock". This means a lot to the core
group of Cruisers that have been doing this on a Wednesday for many
years. Now it will be a Rain or Shine event. Registered Friday &
Saturday Nite Cruisers, with Vehicles 1987 and older are welcome to come
on out as well, if they choose to "Join" the Cruise-In they all have
that option. Make yourself known to Steve or Linda so they can get to
know you. There were several spots
marked for the Cruisers with cones.
Gary &
Kathy C and
Allan were awaiting the arrival of
the Cruisers. It wasn't long before
Dave,
Esther &
Mesha would back their
'83 Grand Marquis
in to a spot next to us.
Bill & Doris would situate
their T-Bird in the second spot to the South of the stage, just where
they wanted it. Coming early will get a parking spot that is "just right".
Laura, NO4OO was next to arrive in her Firebird. She comes all they way
up from the "Green Swamp". Pep & Nancy in their Mustang
convertible.
"Mustang Mike" would be
the next to arrive just about 5:00.
Bert & "Ernie" would park their '66 Comet next to Pep & Nancy. Bert had
news that he spotted Nick in his
'32 Ford and Bob in the
'68 SS396
Chevelle along side the road. The "Z" bracket on the Chevelle's clutch
linkage gave way. They would make it back home OK but weren't able to be
with us but they wanted to be.
Linda, Laura and I would go over to the "Tropical
Breeze" for something to eat. That is where we would meet Gary & Kathy's
son, Gary, daughter in law, Anne and grandson David. While we were
dinning, Gary & Wanda with granddaughters, Taylor and Aubry arrived in
the daily driver, it was raining very hard when they left home so the
Shoebox Chevy stayed at home tonight. Bob N parked his '36 Ford Humpback
in the first spot to the North of the stage. He would also sell the
50/50 tickets from that location. Tony & Donna would bring
out their black '65 Mustang to join up with our Cruise-In. By now the
spectator crowd was growing larger than I have seen it in the last few
weeks. Well, it wasn't raining. I saw many Elvis fans that have been out
in weeks past and even Dennis & Francine, regulars from our Saint Cloud
events were with us tonight. The "Blue Suede Review" was setting up.
Mike Singer and "Mustang Mike" were in the "Blue Room" playing a great
mix of music and setting the sound for the band.
Tracy would come out to see how
things were going. We talked about things that Old Town would like to do
as the host for it's newest Car event.
Other members of our group that came out tonight, to
support the event, on a rainy day, included Steve & Charlie, they left
the '77 deVille at home but I am sure we'll see it once the rain isn't
falling. Tony & Marianne who left the '72 Monte Carlo in the dry garage.
Emma who wondered where the Greenbrier was. George & Mary in their
'72
Monte Carlo. Ken & Wanda that didn't bring out the Indy Pace Car and
Lynn that can't bring out the '49 Ford when it is raining.
Dwight would take the stage just after 7:00, he had
just gotten back from headlining at the Collingwood Elvis Festival in
Canada, a few hours ago. It is his "Early Elvis" performance that starts
off this fantastic show "A Tribute to the King", sponsored by Budweiser,
the "King of Beers".
Chris Solano still
vacationing here in Central Florida with his wife, Heidi, would also
take the stage and give us a couple of "Buddy Holly" songs. Thank You.
The crowd loved him. Dwight always asks "Any Elvis Fans out
there?" Tonight there were lots of them but I actually think there were
as many Dwight Icenhower fans. Yes, he does Elvis but this guy is
talented in his own right. Many of us can not wait to see some of his
other performances, I am sure we'll all get a glimpse of those in
Wednesdays to come.
"Mustang Mike" would make his way down from the "Blue Room" just after
Dwight's first set. Mike, Bob & I
would take stage for the drawings and awards just about 7:45. Aubry
would fish out the winners for us. We had our normal food certificates
donated by Whistle Junction and Beef O'Brady's along with goodies from
Auto Zone. The $71 50/50 went home with Nancy, a spectator.
Curt Lixie, Cruiser #192 wasn't out tonight, AWWWWWW
so the "Cruise-A-Matic" rolls over to $50 next week.
Our first "Cruiser of the Week', award, at our new location, went home with Bill & Doris Moore,
Cruiser #79 in their '79 T-Bird.
We only had a few
cars leave after the drawings. I went up to the "Blue Room" and had a
very nice visit with Mike Singer, we were reminiscing about Old Town in
it's beginnings and how it went from a "Strip Mall" to a "Home Town",
the things that it's creator set in place and the people that have added
to the personality that this place has. How it gives the travelers of
the World that visit us a taste of live, authentic, Americana.
We headed for home just as the third set started, I think the spectator
crowd grew even larger and there were still many of the "Cruisers" in
place.
Congratulations to the winners, Thank you all for
coming out.
See you all "Out There".
On to the Photos.
